The grunting of hippo, together with haunting cry of the Fish Eagle are so evocative of the Africa I love.

I love these pictures of the African wildlife. I was born and raised in the U.S. and have only seen animals like these in a zoo. 🙂

Thank goodness for zoos – otherwise so many people would never have seen a hippo at all 🙂

Lovely photos. We were taken to see some hippos when we visited a Masai village during our holiday in Kenya. They are a wonderful sight and sound. 🙂

I didn’t realise how dangerous they were until I read Wilbur Smith’s ‘River God’ some years ago. They always look so placid. 🙂
